Since the maiden 2002 vintage received a Decanter Gold and was rated one of the New World's top 10 shirazes, each succeeding vintage has won an international gold. The most recent being the 2005 at the International Wine Challenge in Vienna.

Grapes (25 Balling ave) were again sourced from two different vineyards and trellising systems on Lindhorst farms. The conventional “Vertical Shoot Position” (VSP) used for most of the vines, and the more "cutting edge" Smart Dyson system now being used more widely for Shiraz. The latter was designed specifically with Shiraz in mind in an effort to “tame” it's vigorous growth. All grapes were harvested at optimum physiological ripeness for balance and structure.

| Vinification: |
Grapes were carefully hand-sorted, crushed and cold soaked for 48 hours. Gentle handling and minimal interference ensured that the distinctive character was captured. The wine was matured in specifically selected first and second fill 225L French oak barrels for 22 months. |

| Tasting Notes: |
Spice is the variety of life! This wine shows exotic and spicy characters on the nose. Fruit initially subdued on nose, but comes through beautifully on the palate. Blackberry & cherry with a touch of peppercorn. The wine has a classic richness and refinement on the mid-palate. Extended smokey oak spice surrounds the beautiful cherry fruit that forms the core of the wine. Silky, integrated tannins make this a stunning "food" wine. Drink well now, but will benefit from 3 - 5 years of cellaring. For early drinking, decanting is recommended. (Tasted July 2009) |

Food Recommendations - This wine stands up well to strong flavours in cheese dishes, steak au poivre and mild Cape Malay curries. Have it with a roast fillet of beef with herbs, porcini and proscuitto.
