2009 Rose

Appelation: Paarl

Rose

Production: 8 t/ha
Grape Varieties: 95% Shiraz & 5% Pinotage
Wine produced: 750ml - 3 000 bottles
Last years dry rosé sold fast. We had a gap with angry customers waiting for 09 to be ready. We believe it was worth the wait. The 2009 is also a dry Rosé with a lovely colour!

Harvest: The Shiraz all comes off Lindhorst farms and is of the same quality that we use for our red wines. We adjusted our harvest date to achieve a higher acidity and good structure but also to retain some of the fruitiness looked for in Rosé.
Vinification: As with our reds we cooled the grapes down overnight before crushing. From the crusher the grapes went to the tank where they spent just 1 hour on the skins in order to achieve a delicate pink colour. After pressing, fermentation took place in 225L barrels. The wine was left on the leese for a few weeks with the odd stirring and blended to tank in April. The wine was cold stabilized and filtered, giving a clean, clear appearance.
Alc: 13.5%     pH:3.54   Total Acid: 4.9 g/l      Residual Sugar: 4.5g/l
Tasting Notes: Clear, bright appearance. Salmon, apricot and onion skin that hint at an interesting wine. Loads of strawberry fruit, hints of guava and flowery perfume make for a fresh and zippy nose. The promise on the nose follows through on the palate with good acid integrity. The wood exposure and leese contact have increased the palate appeal of this wine. There is well balanced dryness with good mid palate mouth feel. The wine was bottled in April, drinks well now but will improve with a few months in the bottle. It should be enjoyed chilled. (Tasted November 2009)
Food Recommendations: Tomato based seafood pastas and sauces, mild cheeses such as Camembert and Parmesan, grilled tuna, roast turkey. But it’s really great on it’s own at any time of day – a very versatile wine.
